Description
African yaure Baule comb mask 18*7″ 1,5 lbs, for your collection or your wall and interior decoration (Blmk10004)
The Baule are one of the Akan peoples. They moved west to the Ivory Coast more than 200 years ago and adpted masking traditions from their neighbors, the Guro, Senufo and Yaure peoples.
The comb above the coiffure on this female Yaure mask suggests an affluent woman or the wife of a rich man. The comb prevents her carrying burdens on her head. This is a classic example of the naturalistic style of the Baule and Yaure, with long face and nose, small mouth and incised hairdo.
