A breathtaking ceremonial monkey mask from the Bulu tribe. Bulu inhabit the hilly, forested areas of Cameroon as well as mainland Guinea and northern Gabon. They are a subgroup of the Fang people.
This beautifully carved mask has a beautiful patina and was used during ceremonies of the Bulu tribe.
The monkey is a sacred animal that is worshipped because of its cleverness, humour and survival skills. Monkeys also play a major role in the legends of the tribe and cheerful stories are often told around the camp fire.
