The Yoruba have been living in advanced urban kingdoms for more than 1,500 years. Their outstanding and unique artistic traditions include sculpture, woodcarving, metalwork, textiles, and beadwork.
The Yoruba began creating magnificent sculpture out of terracotta clay from the 12th through to present day. These sculptures may represent kings/queens, gods or symbols.
